Closed World Reasoning in the Semantic Web through Epistemic Operators
نویسندگان
چکیده
The open world assumption makes OWL principally suitable to handle incomplete knowledge in Semantic Web scenarios, however, some scenarios desire closed world reasoning. Autoepistemic description logics allow to realise closed world reasoning in open world settings through epistemic operators. An extension of OWL by epistemic operators therefore allows for non-monotonic features known from closed world systems, such as default rules, integrity constraints or epistemic querying. These features can be beneficially applied in Semantic Web scenarios, where OWL lacks expressiveness.

Matching Semantic Service Descriptions with Local Closed-World Reasoning
Semantic Web Services were developed with the goal of automating the integration of business processes on the Web. The main idea is to express the functionality of the services explicitly, using semantic annotations. Such annotations can, for example, be used for service discovery—the task of locating a service capable of fulfilling a business request. In this paper, we present a framework for ...
متن کاملModeling epistemic knowledge in logic programs with negation as failure
Representing what an intelligent agent knows or believes can be an important feature for a Web service. Epistemic logic programs proposed by Gelfond [6] are a clear way to reason about what an intelligent agent knows or believes, but the complexity of the reasoning is exponential. The paper proposes a new class of logic programs, which consists from logic programs with two types of negation as ...
متن کاملEfficient Source Discovery and Service Composition for Ubiquitous Computing Environments
To be truly pervasive the devices in a ubiquitous computing environment have to be able to form a “coalition” without human intervention. The Semantic Web provides the infrastructure for discovery and composition of device functionalities. AI planning has been a popular technology for automatic service discovery and composition in the Semantic Web. However, because the Web is so vast and change...
متن کاملAn Epistemic Operator for Description Logics
Description iogics (aiso caiied terminoiogicai iogics, or concept ianguagesj are fragments of first-order logic that provide a formal account of the basic features of frame-based systems. However, there are aspects of frame-based systems-such as nonmonotonic reasoning and procedural rules-that cannot be characterized in a standard first-order framework. Such features are needed for real applica...
متن کاملStable Model Theory for Extended RDF Ontologies
Ontologies and automated reasoning are the building blocks of the Semantic Web initiative. Derivation rules can be included in an ontology to define derived concepts based on base concepts. For example, rules allow to define the extension of a class or property based on a complex relation between the extensions of the same or other classes and properties. On the other hand, the inclusion of neg...
